The metal particles expelled during fusion welding that do not form a part of the weld. Causes of spatter: The inherent properties of certain electrodes; excessive welding current; the: type or diameter of rod used; an excessively long arc; arc blow.

Corrections: Use correct type of electrode; check for correct welding current and arc length; reduce arc blow; use anti-spatter on parts adjacent to the weld to prevent spalls from adhering to the work.
