STRESS-RELIEF CRACKING

STRESS-RELIEF CRACKING

Intergranular cracking in the heat-affected zone or weld metal as a result of the combined action of resid-ual stresses and postweld exposure to an elevated temperature.  This phenomenon is most prevalent in age-hardenable alloys. It is also referred to as reheat cracking or strain age cracking.
