(Chemical symbol: Rn). A heavy, gaseous element which is given off as the initial product during radium disintegration. Radon is a gas which has a half-life period of 3.85 days. Either radium salts or radon may be used in industrial radiography, however, when radon is used, complicated corrections in exposure time estimates are necessary because of its short half- life.
