We’re sharing an important update as WeldCor continues to grow and evolve.
We have completed the process of restructuring our organization to formally recognize WeldCor as an Indigenous supplier. This change reflects something that has long been part of our company—Indigenous participation across our team, including individuals involved in leadership, ownership, and decision-making.
This restructuring is about alignment and clarity. It brings our formal structure in line with the people and relationships that already exist within WeldCor, and helps us better support both our customers and the Indigenous communities we work alongside.
As part of this next stage, we’re also pleased to welcome Mavis Poundmaker to WeldCor in a key role focused on building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations across the regions we serve.
Mavis is the great-great granddaughter of Chief Poundmaker and is a member of the Poundmaker Cree Nation. She brings a strong understanding of the importance of trust-based, long-term relationships, along with a long-standing personal and professional relationship with Leroy Billesberger, the President of WeldCor.
“This is about being clear and accurate about where we’re headed as a company,” said Billesberger. “We’ve always had Indigenous participation within WeldCor. What we’re doing now is formalizing that structure so it reflects the reality of our organization and strengthens how we work with both customers and Indigenous communities.”
In her role, Mavis will work on WeldCor’s behalf to support relationship development and engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
“I’m excited about this opportunity to help build bridges with First Nations Communities,” said Poundmaker. “I plan to expand on existing relationships and strengthening connections in a meaningful and lasting way. Indigenous Peoples are recognizing the relevance of having our seat at the table when it comes to big projects in every industry. Respectful dialogue and listening to ensure that relationships that are built are grounded in trust and beneficial in the long-term. As my great great grandfather Chief Poundmaker once said “We cannot just sit by the trail”….I believe that First Nation’s People are ready to be trailblazers!”
For our customers—project owners, contractors, and procurement teams—this restructuring will provide a clearer pathway to incorporating Indigenous participation into supply chains and project requirements, while continuing to rely on WeldCor for technical expertise, product availability, and dependable service.
We’ll be sharing more in the coming months as this restructuring progresses and as we continue building relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations across the country.
This is an important step forward for WeldCor, and we’re excited about where it leads.
